I am finally quilting my groove quilt that I finished piecing almost 8 months ago! It has been hanging on my wall all this time while I finished a scrapbook and the Dillon quilt and some other exciting things. So this is the beginning of basting. I'm using Sharon Schamber's board method. I had the honor of meeting her and her daughter at a quilt guild meeting I attended last summer. She is pretty much a quilting genius! I really admire her work and all of her techniques.
I particularly love her basting method because I was never able to get a flat quilt before I tried this, and it is so easy! I also really like thread basting because if you accidentally sew over the thread it really doesn't make any difference, sewing over a basting pin is just miserable. I had never heard of thread basting until I listened to Sharon's daughter explain this method to us.
You may notice that I'm using a sheet as my backing. I know this is a total No-No in quilting but I guess I'm just a real quilting bad a** because I use sheets all the time and they don't give me any trouble. I like not having a seam in my backing and I also love not spending a ton of money on the back of a quilt.
